It has a website and everything. And two fucking awesome looking trailers!
Wally Xie found this one a year or so ago, but it's been an awful long time since we last heard anything...because the thing is animated entirely by one dude.
One awesome dude.

Looks absolutely amazing - exactly the kind of gem I watch anime to find.
ReplyDeleteThe first trailer has been available for over TWO YEARS now. Second trailer is from a few months ago. We'll finally be getting it this year.
ReplyDeleteBeen looking forward to this one for a while.
ReplyDeleteCan't think of anything like this in scope for anime. I know that episode four of Kaiba was done by one guy (both key animation and in-betweens, I think), but that doesn't really compare to a full-length feature.
What about Makoto Shinkai's work? That was all his own blood, sweat and tears.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall anything longer than a half-hour coming from Shinkai.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall anything GOOD coming from Shinkai.
ReplyDeleteActually, I liked 5 Centimeters Per Second (which is also longer than a half hour, but it's also not a one-man job). Which surprised me, seeing as weepy teenagers are not my genre, and I actually disliked Voices of a Distant Star. Didn't see Place Promised.
ReplyDeleteHaven't gotten around to 5 Centimeters Per Second yet, but I quite enjoyed Voices of a Distant Star.
ReplyDeletePlace Promise in Our Early Days was gorgeous and incredibly atmospheric, but I think it did a wonderful job of illustrating that Shinkai does an amazing job with atmosphere and vistas (and shot composition) but is still a bit shaky with actual plot and resolution.
I really enjoyed it, but it's definitely not for everyone. It's one of those "you gotta enjoy the journey, not the destination" kind of anime.
