I love the dude, but you cannot deny that he never fails to make the wrong decision or draw the wrong conclusion. He is firmly the wingman of the Experts of Justice.
Pah. That might be impressive if he were judged by normal human standards, instead of elemental juggernauts like TAISOU THE HUMAN DYNAMO and HANZUI THE EVIL MESSIAH. I'd grant that he might be a more impressive fan-wielder than Anji=Mito, perhaps.
Actually, this rewatch was the first time I'd seen this on DVD. I'm not sure if Media Blasters' subs are more accurate than Manga's, but the epithets are definitely not as pants-soilingly awesome. "Hanzui the King of Confusion" just isn't as satisfying to yell. :(
These are the 4 issues of the fanzine we produced a while back (2002-2004). They're rough, but they're also the foundation for a lot of what we've built since then, including this site.
Click on the issues to bring up the full reader.
Issue 1 focused on Berserk, Jin-roh, and Asian live-action movies. It also had a memorable review of Gundress.
Issue 2 was a dissection of FLCL (it explains it all, really) and the work of Taiyo Matsumoto.
Issue 3 tackled Yoshitoshi ABe's traditional Japanese aesthetics, explained Evangelion and looked at the explosion of Korean movies.
Issue 4 was all about horror, laying out what made new wave Japanese horror so unique.
but professor go is a TRUE BRO

ReplyDeleteI think they went so far as to just make him a villain in the manga.
ReplyDeleteHow'd that turn out, by the by?
ReplyDeleteI have volumes four and five sitting unread? And that was a year ago I bought them...
ReplyDeleteNot true, he used his giant fans to protect someone that one time. I think?

The manga is pretty interesting. It's a shame only 11 chapters are translated.
