I need a consult here
This can't possibly be as amazing as it sounds, can it? Because it kind of sounds like Iron Wok Jan with even more actual animal murder. Either way, sounds like I need to check it out.

It certainly seems to be the biggest hit Jump's had in a while. I've been a bit dubious, since the author previously did Takeshi, a standard ugly-chic gag manga that ran out of jokes and turned into a battle manga a few volumes in (and directly inspired stuff like Bobobo) before being canceled after the author was arrested for paying a 16-year-old for sex.
ReplyDeleteHe served his time and did a short lived boxing manga in Young Jump. A few years of silence and suddenly he makes a triumphant return with this. Let us know if it's any good.
Wow, that factoid casts a bit of a pall over it.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit surprised to see him return to Jump after they took out a full page ad apologizing for his behavior while instantly canceling his series and pulping the volume that was about to come out. It was kind of a huge scandal at the time.

This thing (which I found, by the way, lame and uninspired) has been scanlated well into volume 4, pretty easy to find relevant links.
ReplyDeleteDo consider that the target audience here is boys who are not yet old enough to allow their sexual appetite to dominate their appetite-appetite. Given that, it's a bit of ridiculous fun.
ReplyDeleteI always find Something Awful's forum discussions informative (in a certain light): Toriko is a series about tearing the head off giagantic animals with approximately a billion teeth and then eating food so good it makes you cry.

ReplyDeleteGood, because I am totally not into food-play.
