I don't see the Ong Bak influence as much as the Jackie Chan one, but they've clearly seen a bunch of great fu flicks and learned from them.
But there are definitely a few moments where I felt you could see an extra beat built in that made it feel more like a dance than a fight, or just like a film made by people who've never made a fu flick before.
Hopefully they'll work better in context/have insert closeups to cover them in the editing process the way HK directors have learned to do. Trailer is clearly all master shots.Andrew Cunninghamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03423087160541542219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616652632706177489.post-46348614301704706722009-05-03T10:42:00.000-07:002009-05-03T10:42:00.000-07:00I'm not so sure. They've clearly been watching Ong Bak etc. (fair enough), but what that makes Ong Bak awesome is BONE-CRUNCHINGLY REALISTIC ACTION whereas as this came across more CAREFULLY CHOREOGRAPHED AND PERFORMED SAFELY AND SKILLFULLY.

Then again it did have a couple of fucking awesome moments, and I like this guy's hair. If the film entire has less of the Ong Bak vibe it could be pretty good.774https://www.blogger.com/profile/13583305712586491823noreply@blogger.com
